Attending a retreat is a great way to get a solid foundation and enough learning material to develop further skills. Get personal help from pioneers in this field!
Wave Dance & Object Manipulation
suited for all levels

If you are an artist, dancer or juggler, and you want to broaden your (professional) skills, this retreat is for you! Or if you just want to get inspired and have a great time learning new things, you’re also at the right place.

This retreat is suited for all levels of dancers, contact bal manipulators and hoop manipulators. You don’t need any prior experience to attend this retreat. Of course if you have experience in any of the fields it will be easier for you to pick it up, and you might be able to go deeper into exercises.

The contact ball manipulation we will learn is done while holding the ball, so you don’t have to be able, or to learn, any body rolls for example.
Also for the isolation hoop exercises, you don’t need any prior experience. Please bring a 50 cm (metal) hoop, if you have it. If you don’t have an iso hoop, you can borrow a plastic one from us.

You will learn body manipulation & dance techniques that you can combine with object manipulation. During the workshops, we will only use the ball and hoop as our prop for object manipulation. You will be able to apply the techniques to other props but to keep the lessons well organized, we will use these.

Wave Dance & Object Manipulation

The workshops will be focussed on increasing awareness and mastery of the body in space. Grow your movement vocabulary and explore the possibilities of combining dance and objects. Learn to play with the perception of time through slow-motion and accelerated movements. Find pleasure in repetition, and open yourself up to more freedom and remove constraints through improvisation practices.

André Hildago will teach a wide variety of exercises and techniques.

He will share his knowledge, skills, and practices with one contact ball, isolation hoop, and the body. Body control is an inseparable aspect of his juggling practice. It’s a research into fluidity, robotic or slow-motion movements and exploring the different relationships with the ground/gravity. Almost all the movements we will learn can be combined or will help to express yourself fuller through object manipulation.
The classes will also be tailored to the individual- and group’s wishes, where possible.

RECAPS: Every day there will be a recap-video made of the exercises. All attendants will get access to these recaps, so you can easily practice more after the retreat.

Liquid lines

Liquid dancing is a style created around the illusion of a fluid-like motion of the dancer’s body. It is a type of gestural, interpretive urban dance that has many moves in common with popping and tutting. It utilizes the imaginary grid around the body to create a flow-y yet precise and geometrically pleasing form. In my classes, I will be sharing ways to improve technique, build muscle memory and strength, as well as ways to understand and access the grid in the space around us.

– exploring ‘the grid’ with Adrienne Zest. What is the grid, and how it can serve us in liquid dance and tutting. Exercises to improve muscle memory for quicker and more precise grid patterns.
– Coordination exercises
– Body isolations
– Exercises for fluent energy transformation in liquid movement

about the instructors
ANDRÉ HILDAGO

André Hidalgo is an artist that’s internationally recognized for the precision and fluidity of his movements. He has created a style all his own, by combing juggling and dancing; he pioneered in laying the framework for combining Windstyle with object manipulation. He’s also known as Pilolip, this is his artist name he has created videos with.
In 2013 he started working together with Aragorn Boulanger, the founder of Windstyle. Windstyle is a kind of popping but in a fluid motion. From Windstyle, many different body manipulation techniques like Wave and Liquid emerged. Aragorn and André gave many workshops together for 8 years, teaching a combination of dance- and circus techniques.
In 2014 André played for seven months in Las Vegas, in a show from the Spiegelworld company. They later also toured in many alternative theaters in Paris.

After coming back to France, he has worked as a juggler, dancer and creative director for the companies Piryokopi (juggling), Genom (dance) and Defracto (juggling).
In 2018 he has created his first choreographed solo show combining juggling, body & object manipulation called “Tendrure”
Since 2019 he is participating in a project from company Kiaï, that’s a choreography with 6 acrobats on trampolines.
He continues to develop his skills by following workshops in a broad variety of categories like clowning and capoeira.

about the instructors
Adrienne zest
Hello, my name is Adrienne. I am a dancer and a performer, as well as a teacher of yoga and movement. I conducted my formal dance education at the conservatoire of Dusan Nebyla in Slovakia and later continued broadening my skills by attending different workshops around the globe.
In my early twenties, I discovered object manipulation – also known as ‘flow arts’, which led me to a new and exciting world of performing with fire and light. In 2018 I started a conscious community center With The Flow focused on movement and well-being. We host classes, jam sessions, community events, and monthly Sound Healing Moon Ceremonies. I enjoy sharing my passion for movement with others and discovering new ways to reach the ultimate body-mind connection.
about the instructors
Nana devi

Nana will be giving stretching exercises during the wave retreat. The exercises will be a combination of yoga postures and other practices to improve the flexibility of the muscles. Nana did her yoga teacher training in India, the land where yoga oriented.

Nana is also the organizer of the wave retreat, and working as a manager at the castle where the retreat will be held. Further, she’s a fire performer, and makes costumes and performs as a stilt-walker with her company Street Theater& Co.

She started spinning poi at the age of 16, and since then, the flowarts and dance have been a journey into expressing, discovering, learning and healing herself. An eternal journey into expanding body awareness and expressing through movement and dance.

If you’re a fire spinner, be sure to bring your props so we can have a jam in the evenings! If you want to learn poi, double staff, hoop or fans, I’ll be happy to give some mini-classes.
